Plant sale raises $1,100 for Newbury Town Library programs

To the editor:

On May 17, The Friends of the Newbury Town Library held our annual Plant and Bake Sale Fundraiser. I am writing to not only thank those involved but to let everyone know what a success it was. We were able to raise over $1,100. This will go a long way in allowing us to fund more programs and museum passes at the library. We are absolutely delighted.

We have so many people to thank. Our thanks to all of you who came out in support of the fundraiser and bought plants and baked goods. Your support is very much appreciated. Our thanks to those of you who donated baked goods. They were all delicious. Thank you also to Chococoa Bakery, who donated some of their famous whoopie pies to the event. They were certainly a hit.

Our sincere thanks goes also to the following garden centers and florists who generously donated their goods to us: Harbor Garden Center in Salisbury, to Beach Plum Too in the Tannery, Bayberry Nurseries of Hampton Falls, N.H., Country Gardens in Rowley, Wolf Hill Home & Garden in Ipswich, Molly Janicki of Bayberry Nurseries and Anastasia’s Flowers on Main in Byfield. Thank you all so very much for your support and your community spirit.

Our gratitude and thanks to those of you who donated plants from their gardens and homes to the sale. A special thank-you to Pam Kinney, who donated 95 of her plants to the sale. Each plant found a good home. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and energy to make the sale happen. We could not have done it without you.

The success of this event was not just measured in the amount of money we raised but also in the community spirit that was felt. It was lovely, once again, to see old friends bumping into each other and neighbors meeting each other for the first time. People not only enjoyed the sale but also shopped in the Friends’ bookstore and perused the stacks and the seed library. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the library as much as we do.

Finally, thank you to the library staff and trustees who were there in support of the event. We are so happy to be part of a team with you!

Thank you also to the Newburyport Daily News and Newbury Elementary School for once again promoting our event.
