Thanks for helping clean up rail trail

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

On a recent, brisk Saturday morning, about a dozen dedicated volunteers turned out to rake 115 bagsful of leaves from the Clipper City Rail Trail, leaving the pathway that much less prone to hazards caused by a slippery leaf cover.

Volunteers also picked up trash and removed the last of the supporting straps from trees, which were installed when the trail was built.

Many thanks from me and the Parks Commission go to the following people for their hard work, community spirit and support of the Rail Trail and Newburyport Parks: Julie Amery, Joe and Jack Atchinson; John, Olivia and Graham Billington; Susan Hern; Jack, Will and Steve Parker; Amy, Marissa, Morgan, Dewey and Lea Pearson; Susan Ricker; Byron, Zoe and Ryland Seese; Sam Stanley; Derek and William van Vliet, and Peter Zorakas.

A special thank you is due the lone volunteer who picked up trash on the southern end of the trail in a very difficult area.
