Turkey Trot raises $13,000 for area charities

To the editor:

The Joppa Flats Running Club thanks the 1,496 runners and sponsors at the 24th Annual Maudslay Turkey Trot.

Because of the generosity of the runners and sponsors, the Joppa Flats Running Club donated over $13,000 in cash to area charitable organizations, including: $8,150 to the Salisbury Pettengill House, $1,500 to Newburyport Opportunity Works, $1,000 to the Newburyport Salvation Army, $1,200 for Amesbury’s Our Neighbors’ Table, $1,000 to Maudslay State Park.

Because of the runners’ gifts, The Joppa Flats Running Club was also able to deliver a couple of pickup truckloads of foodstuff to the Pettengill House.

Joppa Flats Running Club gives special thanks to our major sponsor, The Institution for Savings, who has supported this race for many years. The Joppa Flats Running Club also thanks the staff and management at the Maudslay State Park and North End Boat Club for their support of this event.

Next year will be the 25th anniversary of the race at Maudslay and we are already starting the planning for that milestone race.
