---- — To the editor:
In response to the pastor’s statement that “Darkness is destroying this country,” how can you in good consciousness publish such tripe?
Just because he asserts that the Bible is true and does not lie does not necessarily make it so. In fact, analysis of the Bible shows it has no more inherent wisdom than what you would expect from the backward Bronze Age Middle Eastern Bedouins who wrote it. It is fraught with the ignorance, immorality, prejudices and brutality of its time.
Enlightened residents of the 21st century choose to live with a rationally based morality where people try to get along with one another without imposing their beliefs on others. Where morality is based upon accountability to your fellow man and not obsessed with appeasing an imaginary, invisible sky daddy who’s overly concerned with who is sleeping with whom.
The nine justices in black robes got these recent cases right; well, at least five of the nine did. American justice was dispensed justly, last week. And because those decisions did not agree with his favorite religious superstition, he decides to try to scare people with childish stories of hellfire and damnation. What an ignorant and un-Christian thing to do.
I feel sorry for him.
