Our Neighbors' Table thanks volunteers, donors

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

Every day at Our Neighbors’ Table, we are reminded of just how important our volunteers are to keeping our doors open. We did some recent calculations that seemed noteworthy. For a typical Wednesday Dinner, served from 4 to 6 p.m., it takes 37 volunteers 141 hours of volunteer time to get everything prepared, served and cleaned up. Our weekly Friday and Saturday pantries require 123 hours from 49 different volunteers.

Combined with our office volunteers, your fellow community members are putting in more than 14,300 hours of service every year to help put food on their neighbors’ tables, saving Our Neighbors’ Table more than $140,000 that would otherwise be needed to pay for staff.

Last Thursday night, we took some time out to show our volunteers how thankful we are. Once again, the community as a whole pitched in to make a very special evening for more than 120 volunteers who joined us at Amesbury’s Cultural Center to celebrate their accomplishments.

Our Neighbors’ Table would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of the restaurants, businesses and individuals who made donations to our event. Delicious food was donated by Ristorante Molise, Maggie Sundae, The Barking Dog, The Barn Pub & Grille, Phat Cats, Panera Bread, Murphy’s Riverside, Flatbread Company, Cider Hill Farm, Papa Gino’s, The Hollow Café, Dunkin Donuts, Shaheen Brothers, Inc., Marie Bernier and Murray Bailey. We also thank Tom’s Discount for donating a gift card that we used for paper goods. Raffle prizes were donated by: Planet Fitness, Hodgie’s Ice Cream, Leo’s Superbowl, Rt. 110 Roast Beef & Seafood, Felco Car Wash, The Hollow Café, The Winner’s Circle, Sylvan Street Grille, Vision Max Cinema, Ovedia Artisan Chocolates, Judy’s Hairworks, Charlie’s Pizza, Mark Gagnon and Murray Bailey. Thank you all so much for your generosity and for making this a very special evening for our wonderful volunteers.
