This is what true evil looks like

To the editor:

Was anyone else disappointed, disgusted and horrified by the events of last week “honoring” former president George W. Bush? Imagine how Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama and even George Bush Sr. must have felt. I can only hope and pray that our precious tax dollars are not funding any portion of this debacle, although I have a funny feeling they are.

I do realize that none of us are perfect and that we all make mistakes in life (Lord knows I’ve made plenty), but the actions of George W. Bush, and his cronies Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and others, in my opinion, are the embodiment of true evil incarnate, here on earth. Mistakes and suspect policy decisions are one thing, but when it involves the taking of human lives, that crosses the line of good and evil. I am not an easy believer in evil, as I think the vast majority of us are inherently good, with good intentions. To quote Rudyard Kipling: “I always prefer to believe the best of everybody, it saves so much trouble.”

Like many of you, I suppose, I have tried to wrap my head around how others could have committed such dastardly deeds, heinous crimes. It is hard, and impossible for me to understand or rationalize such acts of widespread killing. Especially since we had the whole world on our side, post 9/11, supporting us, watching, waiting to see how we (the USA) would react. How would we lead, inspire, galvanize? We invaded a sovereign nation, under the guise of “weapons of mass destruction”; shame on Colin Powell, and others who went along with, and even tweaked and promoted this flawed strategy. Shame on us, the American public for not doing more to stop it! We killed hundreds of thousands of human beings, all in the name of what? Does anyone have some other logical explanation, other than evil for this behavior?
