Just who used chemical weapons in Syria?

To the editor:

The echoes of an earlier time are obviously below the threshold of hearing for the tone-deaf politicians running this government. I remember Colin Powell at the U.N. solemnly presenting the (hah!) evidence of Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction. Powell was but one of a procession of pompous liars parading about, trying to justify the Iraq war, and we know how well that turned out.

Now, John (park my yacht in R.I., to avoid taxes ...) Kerry states the evidence of chemical weapon use in Syria is “undeniable.” Well, that may very well be; only problem is, who used them? The Syrian government, the rebel opposition or Mossad agents conjuring evidence to con the U.S. into attacking Syria?

Nothing like a foreign war to take the U.S. mind off high gas prices, five different administration scandals, continued high unemployment and a couple of racially foul murders in the U.S., one of an 88-year-old World War II veteran that has received zero comment from the president, who had much to say about Zimmerman.

The festering carbuncle of the Middle East has regained dominance in the news, and our domestic problems can be back-handed off the front burner; they’ve been swept off the stove, and kicked behind the fridge. Only a coldly sobered and utterly disillusioned cynic would infer cynical manipulation of events as he reads the headlines. And I confess to harboring precisely such an assessment.

I’ve been lied to by Republicans, Democrats and one or two Independents, and compared to them, Kerry is a transparent amateur. In all his years of alleged public service, I can recall no significant contribution except the altitude his throw achieved when he tossed some other guy’s medals over the White House fence.
