Mayor thankful for community's support

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the Editor:

I am writing to express my sincerest thanks to the voters of Newburyport for their support in providing me with the privilege of serving as your mayor for another four years. It was a vigorous campaign season and I was grateful for the opportunity to share my administration’s accomplishments and engage in discussions and debate on a range of issues. Thank you to so many who opened up their homes and businesses to host events. It was an opportunity to meet many new people, renew old friendships and hold great conversations.

This was a remarkable municipal election with new candidates and competition in nearly all races. My congratulations to all the candidates who took on the challenge of running for office or re-election; it is a major commitment and thank you for your efforts. I look forward to working with our City Council and with new City Councilors- Jared Eigerman, Charlie Tontar, Meghan Kinsey, Bruce Vogel, and Larry Giunta who join veteran Councilors Tom O’Brien, Allison Heartquist, Bob Cronin, Ed Cameron, Barry Connell and Ari Herzog. Congratulations to new School Committee Member, Michael Luekens.

On behalf of our city, my thanks and gratitude for your years of service on the City Council -- Greg Earls, Tom Jones, Brian Derrivan, Steve Hutcheson and Dick Sullivan Jr. and to Dan Koen, School Committee member.

Campaigns also require building teams and recruiting many volunteers. My heartfelt thanks to Colleen Guillou, campaign chair, who led my dedicated, energetic and determined team -- well done and thank you all!

As we leave this election behind, there is much work ahead. There is a notable increased passion and engagement of residents with the city, not only on the issues but through action with highest levels of volunteerism throughout our city and schools. We need to continue to build these efforts to further advance open and collaborative work as we move the city forward through the next four years and beyond. Thank you again.
