---- — To the Editor:
The First Grade teachers from Salisbury Elementary School got together last Spring and applied for a transportation grant to be able to take our students to a fairy tale play “The Reluctant Dragon” this Fall. We were fortunate enough to receive this grant and just returned from the wonderful performance!
Working with Evelyn Kovach and Beth Falconer from the Firehouse was such a pleasure. They were so helpful; from making the reservations to coordinating the transfer of funds to pay for the buses these ladies were so patient and helpful with all of the minute details that school field work entails.
We appreciate the availability of such a grant and this generosity has not gone unnoticed. Our students were very impressed that neither they, nor the school had to pay for the buses.
The students loved the experience, from climbing the many stairs, to seeing the theater for the first time (many students first theater experience!) to the play itself, everything was perfect!
In these data driven times of Common Core Standards, it was refreshing to be able to attend such an event and tie it into the first grade standards. We’ve made lifetime memories for sure and wanted to make the community aware that such generosity exists and is appreciated more than we can express.
Thanks again to the Firehouse Center for the Arts for everything!
