Clarifications on the waterfront

To the editor:

I am a member of COW, and as a member, I would like to refute two claims that the NRA and its followers keep saying in the letters and their comments.

COW has never been in favor of keeping the NRA lots as dirt. We have always said that the lots should be paved.

The second issue concerns the expansion of the waterfront park. The NRA plan shows an expanded park, but this was not done out of the goodness of the NRA, but is mandated under the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Chap. 91 law. Under Chap. 91, no parking or buildings are allowed within 100 feet of the river’s edge. Therefore, part of the area that is presently used for parking would have to be maintained as park land. Please stop distorting the truth.
