Rocking chair drive for Nock School

To the editor:

The Newburyport Community is incredibly generous to the students of Newburyport. Whether via the NEBC, the NEF, the donation of goods and services by businesses to the PTOs and the incredible volunteerism, we are so fortunate to have such a strong community.

Currently the Nock Middle School is looking for donations of eight to 10 new or gently used wooden rocking chairs from non-smoking homes to use in classrooms. Rocking chairs provide an opportunity for students with attention, learning and autism spectrum needs to sit and calm down while they’re maintaining themselves in the classroom, thus supporting our district’s inclusion initiatives.

If you have a wooden rocker in good condition that you’d like to donate to the Nock Middle School, please contact: Erin Rich, occupational therapist, erich@newburyport.k12,ma.us; or Special Education director Barbara Dee, bdee@newburyport.k12.ma.us.

On behalf of the students of the students and teachers, we appreciate your support!
