Pressure Congress to avoid 'fiscal cliff'

To the editor:

Ordinary voters need to put pressure on our congressional delegates to support equitable tax reform. Sixty percent of Americans are in favor of a balanced approach, increasing tax rates for millionaires. President Obama claimed during his election campaign that he would back this simple measure of fairness. Speaker Boehner continues to insist that taxes not be increased for the wealthiest Americans. Doesn’t anyone remember the 1000 point Stock Market drop in one day last fall before the current agreement was reached?

President Obama has previously failed to stand up to House Republicans. We all need to call, write, text, email and/or tweet both of our senators, your representative and to the White House, to insist that we avoid the upcoming “fiscal cliff” and make the wealthiest accept a just tax rate increase. We need to speak up so that our lawmakers do the job we elected them to do.
