Finest Kind is our special meeting place

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

Enjoyed the article on the Finest Kind diner. But to retired fire Chief Jack Cutter and me, it is our own senior citizen center Monday through Friday, 06:30.

It is where we “gossip” and vent our frustration. Jack has a problem with an outboard motor again and again. I give him my sob story about the three power mowers I use that are still usable as a result of using duct tape.

The “Kind” is our lounge room at the “home.” Jack has his coffee and order of toast and I just coffee (cutting back on expenses). On occasion, Dave will give me a muffin that is crumbling.

We have times when we remember the mornings at Taffy’s with the late Jim Curley. There are tales of penny loafers, upper right hand corner (we would hear Curley on that one a day later) canes, cracked shot glass.

Yes, Finest Kind is our morning at the home. If you’re ever on Merrimac Street near the Towle Building and are super hungry, have Dave make you an omelet — you will see why you should have brought a turkey platter.
