Thanksgiving dinner welcomes all

To the editor:

It is that time again when the Newburyport Lions Club will be holding their annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner. "We serve" is our motto. The Lions organization began more than 90 years ago now with over 1 million members, when Helen Keller asked the Lions to be the Knights of the Blind, to help those in need.

In Newburyport, one of our community service events is a free community dinner that is going to be held at the Immaculate Conception School cafeteria on Washington Street in Newburyport. The event is scheduled for Nov. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a bus, thanks to Salters Bus, for those who need a ride at all senior housing in the city, in addition to stops at Woodman Way and Park Circle. Pickup is at 11 a.m. Those in need who are unable to attend but would like a meal delivered can call Mark at 978-499-0405.

Volunteers will be working the day before the event to prepare for the grand meal beginning at noon. Monetary donations are welcome and can be mailed to Newburyport Lions Thanksgiving Dinner, PO Box 545, Newburyport, MA 01950.

Donations of food and supplies can be brought to the school cafe anytime after noon on Wednesday, Nov. 25. Please use the door nearest the parking lot. We encourage the community, both adults and children, to come out for the event. There are people who are hungry in this city. This meal may be the only one they have all day. The Lions want to make sure those meals are delivered. Please help us to help others.

Last year more than 300 volunteers helped with this dinner. Will you step up to the challenge to help others?
