'This Day in History' is a real gem

To the editor:

I wish to express a sincere thank-you from myself and many, many other Daily News readers for printing “This Day in History” each day (the front page, lower right). Thank you is also offered to the Historical Society of Old Newbury. The historical society needs to research tons of material to select interesting bits of information that ranges from the 1600s up to 1930s and even as late as the 1950s. These events are in Newburyport.

What must the people of the 1600s and 1700s think of today? Surely they would be amazed at our inventions. Some of it would bring joy, but some would be disgusting. Think about it.

Comparisons of the 1930s and 1950s would also bring awe and confusion as they compare to life today. So many changes, so many advances, all good? That is the question to think about.
