Former minister's vision for church will continue

To the editor:

As many of you know, our minister, the Rev. Nancy Haverington, officially resigned from her duties as minister effective Dec. 31, 2012, ending a long and productive tenure as our church leader. Though we began grieving her departure several weeks ago, we wish to celebrate the many unique aspects of the church that were created out of her visionary leadership. The current church council is committed to preserving those programs that reflect the church’s vision and mission as Stewards of Earth and Spirit.

The leadership team is in the process of completing a sustainability plan to present to the congregation within the next month. We are confident that the church and its programs can be sustained. In the meantime, Sunday services will continue, allowing people to remain connected with our spiritual community.

Council members are receiving direction from UCC resources and the Rev. Wendy Vanderhart in accordance with recommended protocol during this time of transition. These invaluable tools are helping us seek an interim minister to lead us through the process of selecting a permanent minister. We invite all of you to be part of a self-study designed to identify our church’s pastoral needs.

We wish to express our gratitude to all of you who are part of this church community and the unique and amazing programs that define us.
