To the editor:
One more thought regarding showing cats, dogs, ferrets and other pets some love:
Never, ever, ever place a "free to good home" ad in the paper or elsewhere. These vulnerable animals often end up in situations that are anything but good, and often not a home at all.
It would be a feather in the cap of The Daily News to place a stop policy on accepting these ads right now. Please consider it.

The problem in our nation's economy is that we cannot raise enough in taxes to pay for all the government programs we have while leaving the nation's citizens with enough of disposable income to move our economy forward, create jobs and become once again a leading economic nation in the world.

I am writing in support of the senior center building project in Newburyport. A senior center in Newburyport has gone from being wanted, to being needed. With the first baby boomers turning 65 last year and people living longer, a senior center in Newburyport can no longer be put off. Newburyport's neighboring towns, which include Merrimac, Salisbury, West Newbury, Newbury and Amesbury, all have their own senior centers. Soon Newburyport's over-65 population will grow larger than the under-18 population!

I am writing in support of the three June 5 ballot questions. Three yes votes will result in a new prekindergarten through third-grade school, critical repairs and upgrades to the Nock/Molin schools, and construction of a long-awaited senior center.

We at Leary's Fine Wines would like to take the opportunity to thank retail manager "extraordinaire" Patricia Casavant for her many years of service. Her work ethic and dedication was unparalleled. We will miss her wry sense of humor and the many one-liners that would leave us in stitches. Many customers would wait at her register to be checked out, even if the other register had no one in line. They would tell me that seeing Pat was one of the bright spots of their day.
