To the editor:
I read with great interest the story detailing Congressman Tierney's remarks and the response from what your reporter termed an "upstart group of Republicans" at their Tea Party rally. I for one am delighted to see democracy in action vs. the usual voter apathy.
I have two daughters in college at the moment, and when the president referred to the stock market as a political "tracking poll" on television a few weeks ago, I yelled back, "No, Mr. President, it's my children's college fund!"
Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike, despite their views of the political party in office, can agree that the trillions of dollars in stimulus and bailouts recently approved by Congress do not actually exist, other than as a national credit card we are all currently running up for our children to pay off with interest in their productive years. The American dream will fade away — the promise of well-paying jobs and home ownership we all expect and demand today — if we baby boomers do not start taking responsibility for ourselves and cease our profligate spending.
When's the next Tea Party? I'll pour.
