Thanks for supporting open house

To the Editor:

On Saturday July 27th, the Newburyport Police Department held its annual open house. Once again the weather cooperated with both sunshine and warm temperatures. The open house has grown each year from its inception with hundreds of residents, visitors, and children stopping by for a tour, inspection of the department’s equipment, safety tips, and goodies for the children.

We are grateful for those who took the time to stop and see first-hand how 911 dispatch works, the safety equipment the department has available to assist in emergencies, and a wonderful facility supported by city leaders and our taxpayers.

An enormous amount of work goes into preparing and setting up for this open house. This could not happen without the support and involvement of our staff. I want to thank my staff for their willingness to volunteer each year and their enthusiasm throughout the day. I want to thank Amy West, Melissa Leary for the work they do to organize the event, Judy Solazzo, Tori Smith, Officer Megan Muldowney, Officer Joshua Tierney, Officer Ron Senter, and Officer Gregory Whitney for all their assistance throughout the event. Also assisting with the overall setup and dismantling of equipment were the officers on-duty that day. I want to thank Domino’s of

Newburyport and Shaw’s (balloons) for their continued support of this event.

Thomas Howard
