A wallet recovered, thanks for yogurt shop workers

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

Last Saturday afternoon, Aug. 17, my husband and I were strolling around Newburyport, enjoying the shops and the weather. On a whim, we decided to stop in to Orange Leaf, a frozen yogurt shop that offers different toppings of your choice. When we were leaving, I pulled my wallet out to pay. My husband suggested that he should pay and I gratefully agreed. Unbeknownst to me, I left my wallet on the counter! I did not discover that my wallet was missing until the next day, Sunday morning at 9 o’clock, as we were about to leave for N.H. for a day of visiting my mom, who is in a nursing home, and attending a book reading by a favorite author. I was worried sick about my wallet.

As we were leaving the nursing home, my husband got a call on his cellphone. Orange Leaf had my wallet! I was so relieved! And when we finally arrived home, there were two messages on our answering machine from Orange Leaf saying that they had my wallet and that they were open until 10 that night. I was exhausted from the traveling we had done that day, so my husband offered to go pick up the wallet right then and there. He (Charlie, my dear husband) got the wallet and offered the employees a monetary reward. They refused. I think I need to point out that there was $70 in cash and several credit cards in the wallet. Everything was intact. I apologize that I don’t recall the names of the employees who contacted us, but we are forever grateful for their honesty!

Go Orange Leaf! Please patronize this place — they are a blessing.
