Newburyport Daily News
---- — To the editor:
I will be voting for Donna Holaday in the Newburyport mayoral preliminary election on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
I’ve seen first-hand both Mayor Holaday’s dedication and fierce determination as she fought to win passage of funding for the Bresnahan, Nock/Molin, senior community center projects and her kindness and graciousness as she spoke with a group of schoolchildren about the value of public service.
In all cases, I’ve been impressed with Mayor Holaday’s acumen concerning the issues impacting the city, her ability to identify practical solutions to complex problems, and her willingness to make tough (and sometimes unpopular) decisions when needed.
Managing a dynamic city like Newburyport is challenging and requires working with a wide range of people to form consensus on a variety of hot-button topics. That’s no mean feat and requires both a degree of fearlessness and tact. I’ve seen Mayor Holaday display both attributes in equal measure.
With polarizing issues like the development of the waterfront, the possible formation of a local historic district, and no shortage of budget decisions demanding attention, Newburyport is lucky to have a tough, talented and resourceful mayor like Donna Holaday.
On Tuesday, Sept. 17, I will be voting for Mayor Donna Holaday and I invite you to join me.
