Thousands of pounds of food collected

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

Our Neighbors’ Table would like to thank the community for their outpouring of support for three recent food drives: Scouting for Food, the Amesbury Election Day Food Drive and the ONT Canned Chicken Drive.

This year’s Scouting for Food Drive, sponsored by Amesbury Packs 4 and 7 and Troops 4 and 7, collected 1,104 pounds of food! Thanks to Cheryl Boyd, Ron Fuller, Danielle Holmes and all the Scouts who worked so hard on this drive and to Sparhawk High School for donating space to sort the food.

This year’s 2nd annual Election Day Food Drive, staffed by Amesbury High School students, collected 1,160 pounds of food and almost $1,000 in donations! Thank you to Heather and Heath King, who coordinated this event, and to all of the students who braved the cold and staffed the table from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.!

Finally, thanks to students from Sparhawk High School who ran the table for our first ever “Virtual” Canned Chicken Drive. Not only did they collect enough donations for Our Neighbors’ Table to purchase 162 cans of chicken for our food pantry — they accomplished this feat by taking turns dressing up as the “Official” Our Neighbors’ Table Chicken and passing out fliers to everyone gathered in downtown Amesbury for the Village of Church Fairs.

On behalf of all of our guests, Our Neighbors’ Table thanks everyone in the community who contributed to the success of these events!
