To the editor:
I am writing in regards to First Essex District state Sen. Kathleen O’Connor Ives being called a flip-flopper and she isn’t, not even close to being a flip-flopper and has not been treated well by the local newspapers during July and August of 2013. She comes across professionally. I agree with her on most issues; whether both of us disagree, neither one of us is even close to being disagreeable.
She is against raising taxes and waste in government, for photo identification on EBT cards, voter identification, tougher laws for sex offenders and all heinous crimes, against welfare abuse and fraud, against illegal immigrants getting all free benefits and is for spending money on education in the right places such as for smaller classroom size, teachers and students. Is also pro-union, pro-labor, pro-business, favors raising the minimum wage and cares a lot about working-class families and seniors and their needs.
She was brought up the hard way, comes from a working-class families and she didn’t forget where she came from. Is up every morning at 5 a.m. and works tirelessly for her entire constituency and finishes her work day whether being at the Statehouse or in the First Essex District. She works many evenings until after 10 p.m. and sometimes midnight.
She is an achiever and works extra hard for the people of Methuen, North Andover, Haverhill, Merrimac, Amesbury, Salisbury and Newburyport. She is bipartisan, independent-minded, her own person and gets along good with both the Democrats and Republicans.
Is against groups such as Citizens United and Koch Brothers and strongly agree with her on campaign finance reform. She deserves a long career in state government and I strongly supported her after the Sept. 6, 2012 Democratic primary and do the same in 2014.
