To the editor:
The Friends of the Newbury Council on Aging thank all of those who contributed to our annual Membership Drive this past summer.
The FNCOA welcomes 91 new members this year. The contributions of our new and continuing members help to fund services for the elders of Newbury, including transportation for shopping and appointments, gas and maintenance of the COA van, exercise classes, social events, Meals on Wheels, insurance education and assistance, and outreach programs.
This fall, the Newbury Council on Aging is offering a new program provided by Elder Services of Merrimack Valley, Inc. Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a six-week educational program designed to give caregivers tools and ideas for taking care of themselves while they care for a relative, friend or loved one. The classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays from Oct. 15 through Nov. 19 at the Newbury Council on Aging at the Newbury Elementary School.
Class size is limited to 12 participants. Depending upon the interest in the program, another is tentatively planned to be held next spring. The FNCOA is pleased to be able to pay for the books used for this program because of the generosity of its members. On a case-to-case basis, funding by the Friends may also be available to support caregivers from Newbury who would like to attend the program but need assistance with respite services during the class.
Thanks again to all of our members for your support of our Newbury elders. For information about the Newbury Council on Aging and its programs, please call 978-462-8114 or email email@example.com.
