Reardon the best choice for Ward 5 councilor

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

I’m a local business owner, and I passionately support the community in which I work and live. I currently employ 70 smart and savvy communications professionals who hang their hats at an office on Water Street, and who fully embrace the culture of Newburyport. Ten years ago, I deliberately put my agency’s physical footprint in this city, and I’m so proud of the success we’ve experienced to date.

The Newburyport of a decade ago was a different city than today, and I’d argue that it has changed for the better. My hope is that 10 years from now, this vibrant city will have continued its upward trajectory while preserving the rich sense of community pride that separates Newburyport from just any old New England town. This is a special place, and that’s why it’s so important that voters seize the opportunity to maintain the city’s positive direction by electing smart, forward-thinking city councilors.

On Nov. 5, Sean Reardon should be elected as a city councilor for Ward 5, and here’s why:

Sean embodies everything Newburyport stands for. He’s a hard-working family man who is well-respected by friends, colleagues and peers. He is as solid a person as any of us will ever meet, and there’s a tremendous credibility in the fact that he is already supported by both legacy officials and a vast collection of new constituents. He connects generations, and that ability to span across the old and new is meaningful here in Newburyport.

Sean is a young guy who has earned the right to not only chime in, but to lead. He is the product of a local family with deep roots, the local education system and the local church. He’s had plenty of opportunity to establish a life elsewhere, but he deliberately chooses to strengthen his family’s foundation by raising his children in his hometown. There’s credibility is that type of decision-making, because you know that his ideas for the future of your family will directly affect his own.

Sean is active, engaged and committed. He is attentive to the key concerns of residents city-wide well beyond his immediate neighborhood. As we all know, significant city-wide decisions are on the elected officials’ tables these days, and the folks with decision-making power need to see beyond their own backyard.

Speaking of which, I can’t cast a vote for Sean Reardon, as I’m not a Ward 5 resident. I am, however, an active and genuinely concerned local businessman who is very much attentive to the direction of the entire community and the serious decisions being made by elected officials to help steer the city’s ship. I urge you to reflect on the issues that matter to you, your family and you community at large, and to further consider electing Sean Reardon to the Newburyport City Council.
