Luekens is my choice for School Committee

To the editor:

I’m writing in support of Mike Luekens for Newburyport School Committee.

I’ve known Mike and his family for 6 years, having first met him when our kids were in daycare together. Like us, Mike has two young children, including one in first grade with our daughter at the Bresnahan. As a fellow parent, Mike knows first-hand the concerns we have about our schools, the challenges we face as parents and is someone I’d want helping to make decisions that impact my children’s educational future.

Although Mike began his career in education and holds a master’s degree in education, he has spent the last several years managing a large team in the same industry that I work in (insurance). However, now with young kids and a growing sense of community responsibility, he believes it’s both important and appropriate to volunteer his time to ensure that our schools continue to perform at the highest level possible.

Our schools and our educators play a vital role in community. Mike will be effective in managing the needs of our children while providing the necessary support to the school’s leadership team to develop and implement the policies that are best for our children. I’m confident Mike will be a strong voice, bring a fresh perspective and a common-sense approach to our School Committee. He definitely has my vote.
