Positions of Welch, Mullins mischaracterized

To the editor:

In a letter published by The Daily News on Monday, Oct. 28, I mischaracterized the positions of two candidates for City Council in regard to the waterfront and the NRA’s proposed plan. I would like to correct my misstatements and to set the record straight.

Chris Welch, who is running from Ward 2, is a strong proponent of an open waterfront and opposes the proposed NRA plan for constructing two or three new buildings on NRA-owned property.

Sheila Mullins, who is running for an at-large seat, is also a strong proponent of an open waterfront and opposes the proposed NRA plan.

My apologies to both candidates and to the voters of Newburyport for misleading them, all through my careless reporting.

Janet K. Marcus
