Thanks for helping to get me elected

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”

Being elected as one of your incoming city councilors at-large is a testament to a collection of kind words and their power to encourage. I am surrounded by good people who are generous with their time, talent and treasure. They are also generous with their words of encouragement and I am humbled to be on the receiving end.

There are so many people to thank. First and foremost, a huge thank-you goes to Pam Brockmeier Armstrong and Kim Klapes, my campaign co-chairs, and Christian Sava and Heather Lucas, my treasurers, for being at the helm. I am so appreciative of all the time and energy they gave to me over these campaign months. Thank you to Ann Dykes and Gary Gorski for helping me with my messaging and making sure we made the most of every word. Thank you to Brian Callahan for his website creativity and expertise. And there were so many others who gave of their time to send “dear friend cards,” help at the kick-off party, hand out literature, host coffees, place yard signs, hold signs at standouts or give me a pat on the back and thumbs-up throughout the campaign. They all kept me motivated and on-task. They also gave me their friendship during the campaign, which was invaluable.

Many thanks to Kara and Paul Dahn for opening their home and hosting my kick-off party last spring. Kara and Paul’s generous hospitality set the tone for the campaign. Thank you to Nancy Batista Caswell of Ceia and Brine and Claude Elias of Oregano for opening their establishments to me and contributing their fabulous food and space. Thanks to The Port Tavern and David’s Fish Market for their contributions to my kick-off party. Thank you to Cathy Moulton and Heather Paterson of 17 State Street Cafe for contributing to my kick-off as well as for running over some muffins and pastries to keep my sign holders happy and fed on Market Square. Newburyport (and beyond) is full of generous people and businesses.

I want to thank all of our elected officials and candidates. I have a whole new respect for them and what it takes to partake in politics. Leaders must be vulnerable to truly lead and that takes guts. I have such respect for them.

Many, many thanks to my husband, Brent, and our sons, Christian, Gabriel and Asher, for being my foundation in all of this. Couldn’t do it without you.

Finally, thank you to all who voted for me on Nov. 5. My hope is that I make you proud. I will work hard to do right by the city and the passionate people who live and work here. Thank you for all of your support and thank you for trusting me with your vote.
