Children's concert a treat for seniors

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

I would like to thank the Merrimac Sweetsir School second-grade students under the direction of Mrs. Maryellen Ramsey, for their outstanding performance of holiday music held at the Merrimac Senior Center on Monday, Dec. 10. This was the ninth year that the chorus has performed at the Senior Center and it is a highlight of the season. This year it was attended by over 50 seniors, town officials and Pentucket Regional School District Superintendent Jeff Mulqueen.

The students were amazing as they sang, danced and performed on many different instruments that included drum, xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels, as well as tambourines, bells and triangles. Songs included Christmas and Hanukkah selections and ended with a favorite, “Light a Candle around the World.” This was an opportunity for all of us to learn about different traditions celebrated around the world.

The concert would not have been possible without the cooperation and assistance of the teachers, aides, principal, volunteers and Salter Transportation bus company that provided the transportation at no extra charge. Thanks to everyone for their participation in this wonderful and much appreciated tradition!
