Sue McGrath re-elected president of Essex County Ornithological Club

Sue McGrath, Newburyport resident and founder of Newburyport Birders, was re-elected for a third term as president of the Essex County Ornithological Club. Founded in 1916, women gained membership in 1974 and in 2006 the club elected its first female president. McGrath was first elected president in January 2006.

ECOC promotes interest in the study of field ornithology and general natural history throughout Essex County. The club seeks to involve members in projects and pursuits to further such study.

McGrath served as a council member for several years prior to becoming president. Her interest in bird behavior, field study and designing educational programs will serve her well at the helm. The club conducts monthly meeting at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem.

Veronica Atlantis attends parrot festival

SALISBURY — Veronica Atlantis, owner of Seaside Pet Minder pet-sitting service, recently attended the parrot festival organized by the National Parrot Rescue and Preservation Foundation (NPRPF) and held in Houston, Texas. The foundation rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes displaced parrots. The festival provided three days of educational seminars plus fundraising events for parrots in need of rehabilitation and homes.

Seaside Pet Minder is a pet-sitting service that covers the Newburyport area, specializing in pet birds as well as caring for dogs and cats. Ms. Atlantis attended seminars on avian nutrition, understanding parrot behaviors, updates on latest research on avian diseases and cloning of nearly extinct parrot species, plus holistic methods of caring for parrots to keep them well. Virginia DePasqua and Renee Le Verrier join Newburyport Center for Yoga

Virginia DePasqua and Renee Le Verrier have joined the Newburyport Center for Yoga as co-instructors of Less Is More (LIM) Yoga.

DePasqua and Le Verrier each bring certified training as well as personal experience to the class. DePasqua, RN, RYT, draws on her nursing background and her additional certification in Yoga of the Heart, designed for clients with cardiac, cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Le Verrier, RYT, became a yoga instructor after her Parkinson's disease diagnosis. Also a stroke survivor, her teaching goal is to help others with physical challenges to build fluidity and strength despite limitations. Both instructors have completed training in Yoga for the Rest of Us.

John Grossi receives Public Service Award

John Grossi, owner of Latitude Sports Clubs, donated 15 pieces of gym equipment to the Massachusetts State Police Troop A Headquarters in July 2007. This equipment included Lifefitness treadmills, steppers and bicycles. Every barracks of Troop A was able to benefit from Mr. Grossi's generous donation.

For his donation to the troopers of the Massachusetts State Police, he was awarded the Massachusetts State Police Service Award, established to recognize a civilian member of the department, or a member of the public, who has provided outstanding assistance to the department, or who has significantly contributed to public safety.

Dick Wollmar named New Hampshire representative for Salisbury renewable energy company

NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. — Dick Wollmar of North Hampton, N.H., has been named Solar Edison LLC's representative for New Hampshire. A former selectman, Planning Board, Conservation Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment member of the town of North Hampton, Wollmar was also a member of the Rockingham County Extension Advisory Council and serves on the Board of Directors of the Rockingham Trust.
