Cebula Design wins top honors for interior design

Cebula Design, a full-service interior design firm in Newburyport, was recently awarded the top honor for interior design at the 2009 Prestigious Results in Sales and Marketing Awards sponsored by the Building Association of Greater Boston.

Cebula was awarded Gold in the category of Best Interior Design in a private residency for a 16,000-square-foot home in Dover, N.H., named "Villa Como." Described by owners David and Karen Della Penta as "a dream come true," the sprawling residence on 13 acres overlooking a nearby river fulfills the owners' vision for a spectacular blue summer house. This was Cebula Design's first submission to the PRISM Awards.

Local law firm announces new attorney

Michael A. Tucker of Amesbury has become associated with the law firm of Healey, Deshaies, Gagliardi & Woelfel, PC, in Amesbury. Tucker is a graduate of Gordon College in Wenham and New England School of Law in Boston. He is admitted to the Massachusetts Bar, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the U.S. First Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has been in the private practice of law since 1991. Tucker is experienced in and primarily focuses on civil and criminal litigation. He regularly represents both for-profit and nonprofit corporations, and provides estate planning services.

Dan Duval receives Unsung Hero Award from Chamber

The Newburyport Chamber of Commerce presented its Unsung Hero Award to Dan Duval, creative director and CEO of McDougall & Duval Advertising, in appreciation for the "Newburyport, Love at First Sight" summer promotion that the agency created. Duval also received a letter of appreciation from Mayor Thomas Moak of Newburyport.

The "Newburyport, Love at First Sight" campaign was designed to increase tourism to Newburyport by residents of the Greater Boston area. In addition to strategic advertising around downtown and in targeted regional media, the campaign featured local shuttle service from the local MBTA station to Newburyport and Plum Island, allowing tourists to visit using convenient and cost-effect public transportation.

The award and letter were presented by Ormond and Moak to Duval, and the agency staff at a private reception at Joseph's Winter Street Café in Newburyport.

Johnson Building & Construction receives Best of Salisbury Award

Johnson Building & Construction has been selected for the 2009 Best of Salisbury Award in the Commercial New Construction category by the U.S. Commerce Association.

Bank's charitable foundation supports historical society

The Newburyport Five Cents Savings Charitable Foundation gift of $200,000, which assisted in the purchase of the famed Jacob Perkins Printing and Engraving Building, has enabled the Historical Society of Old Newbury to protect and preserve this historically significant structure.

The plant, which will become a museum slated to open in May 2010, engraved and printed much of the paper currency used in the early 19th century throughout New England and will provide a detailed look at Newburyport's most prolific inventor through active and static displays, educational programs and research resources.

3rd annual Seacoast Business and Green expo

Chamber hosts lamppost program

The Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce and Industry is offering a sponsor-a-lamppost program this holiday season. For a donation of $100, a lamppost in the downtown business district will be decorated with festive garland, bow and a gift tag with the name of your business, name, or family name. Sponsoring a lamppost will help defer the costs of decorating downtown Newburyport this holiday season — all while gaining recognition for your business. Unable to sponsor a lamppost? Hatch named tasting room manager at vineyard

Jessica Hatch has been named Tasting Room manager at Jewell Towne Vineyards, New Hampshire's oldest and most awarded winery. Jessica started her professional wine career at Jewell Towne as an intern and worked her way up to her role managing tasting room operations. She holds a bachelor's degree in nutritional sciences and graduated summa cum laude from the University of New Hampshire. She is interested in all aspects of winemaking, from viniculture and viticulture to winery business and operations. Her tenure at Jewell Towne will immerse her in the wine industry, as her intention is to obtain an MBA in Sustainable Winery operations at some point in the future.

Port man honored at SBANE's Profitable Connections Awards

Newburyport resident Ron Contrado won an award at the Smaller Business Association of New England Profitable Connection Awards for his company, Homisco, a global provider of software solutions, system integration and Software as a Service. SBLI Life Insurance President Bob Sheridan presented the award, which represents meaningful results that were achieved by SBANE, in collaboration with the award winner, to identify a successful financial or matchmaking solution to a challenge or opportunity.
