Benefit for former local woman battling cancer

A fundraiser for Pauline (Yelinek) Carlo, who was diagnosed with colon cancer last year, and her family takes place next Friday, May 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Michael's Harborside, 1 Tournament Wharf, Newburyport.

Carlo, who is the mother of three daughters between the ages of 2 and 7, has exhausted her body's tolerance for radiation and chemotherapy and is about to pursue aggressive surgical treatment to fight the disease, which has returned. The treatment has been a financial drain on her family.

Next week's benefit for Carlo, who has lived in both Byfield and Newburyport before moving to New York, will feature the acoustic sounds of Sargent John, hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction. Admission is $20.

Donations are also being accepted to assist the Carlo family. They may be made out to the Carlo Benefit Fund and mailed to Pauline Carlo, 496 Madigan Road, Schaghticoke, NY 12154.
