From still lifes to fine crafts and everything in between, Newburyport's art galleries are preparing to show off a wide range of artistry Saturday for their final ArtWalk of the year.
The self-guided stroll features 14 galleries in and around downtown Newburyport. Many of the venues will be throwing receptions with refreshments from 3 to 7 p.m., and artists will be on hand at several stops to discuss their work and inspiration.
Here's a look a what some of the galleries have planned:
Bridge Gallery, 1R Water St.: Works by Newburyport photographer Karen Lynch, who combines conventional camera techniques with contemporary technology. Lynch is the featured artist for October at the artists' collaborative.
Churchill Gallery, 6 Inn St.: "Moving Memories," new works by Shannon Richardson. The young artist from Oregon paints dream-like pieces inspired by real-life experiences. Described as visual fairy tales, her paintings acknowledge the severity of life, while portraying the poignancy of the human condition. In addition to Saturday's ArtWalk, a preview reception takes place tomorrow from 5 to 7 p.m., with Richardson leading a talk at 7.
Indigo Artists' Studio, 53 Middle St.: New works by studio artists Mary Arthur Pollak, who is showing a series of monotypes inspired by Maine shorelines and local marshes printed on a Takach press in the studio, and Lillian Coolidge, highlighting a selection of abstract and representational oils, including views of Tuscany and Vermont. Pollak and Coolidge will greet visitors in the studio from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Lepore Fine Arts, 58 Merrimac St.: Selections from its collection of Newburyport material, including an 1846 hand-colored lithograph of Newburyport harbor as seen from Ring's Island in Salisbury by Fitz Henry Lane.
Newburyport Art Association, 65 Water St.: Fall Members Open Show featuring works in all media in Sargent and Hartson galleries, and "In the Kitchen" showcasing pieces inspired by cooking and healthy eating by local artists Marjet Lesk, Susan Spellman and Susan Jaworski-Stranc.
Sweethaven Studio & Gallery, 25 Inn St.: Photographic landscapes of Newburyport and Plum Island by Greg Nikas.
Valerie's Gallery, 26 State St.: Four area artists show off work centering around New England themes and subjects — layered color woodblock prints by Matt Brown, serene black-and-white photography by Dorothy Kerper Monnelly, carved wood bird folk art by Paul Beauregard, and new paintings by mixed-media collage artist Stacey Durand.
Walsingham Gallery, 47 Merrimac St.: "Working in Life," works highlighting the human figure in oil, stone and bronze by Gary Korlin, Lisa Noonis, Dana Levin, Greg Spitzer and Charles Hahn.
The other participating galleries are Chameleon, 18 Liberty St.; Connor Summers Gallery, 48 Market St.; Firehouse Center for the Arts, Market Square; Nantucket Stock Exchange Too, 117 Water St.; Sisters We Three, 57 Pleasant St.; and Somerby's Landing Sculpture Park, Newburyport waterfront.
