Sgt. Scott Miller of Newton, salutes Maj. Gen. Joseph Carter, adjutant general of the Massachusetts National Guard, after being awarded his promotion to sergeant yesterday. The ceremony took place at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute where Miller is being treated for cancer.
