Former Newburyport residents Renee and Paul Giunta and their three children will soon get their home redone courtesy of ABC's "Extreme Makeover Home Edition."
Now living in Maynard, the Guintas' Elm Court home will be made accessible for Paul, who has injuries stemming from a March 2006 car crash.
The crash occurred just hours after his wife gave birth to their third child, as Paul was taking his two oldest children to a toy store to shop for the newest addition to the family. The children were unhurt, but Paul suffered a severe head injury. He was hospitalized at Massachusetts General Hospital and Spaulding Rehab until recently, and now uses a wheelchair. Maynard residents have rallied to get the Giuntas on the television show.
Their home will soon be overrun with construction and television crews that will work to make the home accessible for Paul.
Locally, Renee's former employer, Interlocks Salon and Day Spa, worked to raise money for the family. Renee was a hairstylist at the salon from 1993 to 2000.
