Salisbury Town Notebook: Community Service Fair set for May 31

By Angeljean Chiaramida
Staff writer

Town officials are planning the town's first Community Service Fair on Saturday, May 31. The event — which runs from 9 a.m. to noon — will focus attention on all the community organizations that work to make Salisbury such a productive and responsive town.

Coordinated by Council on Aging Director Liz Pettis, the goal of the event is to connect the more than 30 clubs and local groups in town and have fun while inspiring residents to learn, share and get involved with organizations that work for the good of Salisbury and its 8,000 residents.

The entire community is invited to stop by on May 31, visit the information booths and enjoy the refreshments.

This is a chance for the town to showcase its nonprofit organizations and their missions under one roof at one time and for organizations to gather new members and volunteers. The only criteria for involvement is nonprofit status. There is no participation fee for nonprofit organizations.

Along with Pettis, other members of the Community Service Fair Committee include Selectman Jerry Klima, Town Planner Lisa Pearson and Historical Society President Bev Gulazian.

For more information, contact Pettis at 978-462-2412.

The Salisbury Coastal Trail Group has a big day planned today in celebration of Earth Day. As in the past, volunteers from Timberland Corporation will work with local volunteers to extend Salisbury's recreational biking and walking trails. This year, members of Salisbury's senior citizens community will lend a hand as well.

Plans for today include building two bridges and doing more work to extend the Salisbury Point Ghost Trail to Lion's Park. In the past, from 60 to 100 participants should be volunteering for a great cause.

Contact rail trail enthusiast Klima for more information on the wonderful work done on behalf of the town by this very dedicated group or to get involved in future events.
