Special adoption benefit until May 10

The Merrimack River Feline Society will honor Mother's Day with a special benefit Until May 10 — 50 percent off all adult cat and special needs adoptions: $63 for an adult cat, $25 for special needs. Offer good at MRFRS's Salisbury, Danville and Danvers locations. Does not include kitten adoptions. Cats available include those taken from a Salisbury home in late March. Potassium iodide available at health office

The Board of Health has KI (potassium iodide), for Salisbury residents, at the Board of Health office at Town Hall, 5 Beach Road, on Monday, from 2 to 4 p.m.; Tuesday, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.; and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Bring proof of residency.

Tai Chi — Tuesdays, noon. Increase flexibility and improve circulation.

Senior Fitness — Wednesdays, 10:15 to 11 a.m. If it has been a while since you worked out, this exercise class is for you.

Line Dancing — Thursdays, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Get in shape and have fun doing it.

Sing-alongs — Wednesdays, noon, led by Don Ketzler. Men and women welcome. If you love to sing, this is the group for you. Good therapy and lots of fun.

Meals on Wheels driver needed

A Salisbury Meals on Wheels driver is needed to deliver meals to area shut-ins. The position is Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to noon, depending on when the route is finished, for a total of five hours per week. Applicants must be over 18 years old, fill out an application that includes a reference and background check, use their own vehicles and have a clean driving record. Drivers receive a weekly stipend equal to $13 per day. Retirees are welcome to apply. Orientation and training provided. For more information, call 978-462-2412.

MRFRS needs cat, kitten food, etc.

The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society needs the following for more than 400 cats and kittens in their no-kill shelters: Wet cat and kitten food, dry cat food, kitty litter, bleach, paper, laundry detergent, kitten formula for the bottle babies, heating pads, dish washing soap and much more. Pettengill House needs donations

The Pettengill House is in need of the following spring donations; juice boxes or bottles, jelly, beef stew, canned chicken, pasta sauce, snacks for lunches, cookies, granola bars, graham crackers, fruit roll-ups, pretzels, fruit cups, shelf-stable milk, canned soup, canned peas and canned carrots. Northern Essex Elder Transport needs drivers

A dependable car, good driving record and a little time each month are all you need to become a Northern Essex Elder Transport Inc. (NEET) driver. Drivers take seniors from their homes to out-of-town medical appointments. All seniors requesting rides are independent and ambulatory. NEET drivers are provided with supplemental insurance for their vehicles and reimbursed at 40 cents per mile. Call the Salisbury Council on Aging at 978-462-2412 or the NEET office at 978-388-7474. 2009 MRFRS calendar needs cat photos

The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society is accepting photos of local cats and kittens for their 2009 calendar. For a $250 donation you can have your cat as Cat of the Month; for a $25 donation you guarantee placement; for a $5 donation, the picture goes into the running for the cover cat. The calendar will be on sale in September; all proceeds go to the society's free and low-cost programs. No electronic photos accepted. Mail photos to MRFRS, 63 Elm St., Salisbury, MA 01952. Got Books? donations needed

The town and Got Books? have partnered to seek book donations from residents, businesses, schools, libraries, etc. A Got Books? donation container is at the Drop-Off Recycling Center, 15 Old Country Road, accessible Wednesday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For pickup service, visit www.gotbooks.com or call 978-664-6555. Donating books keeps them out of the trash stream, gives them new life, plus a portion of proceeds benefits the town's general fund.

New signs for Old Eastern Marsh Trail

Volunteers from Salisbury Coastal Trails, Salisbury Historical Society and Coastal Trails Coalition have finished designing new interpretive signs for Old Eastern Marsh Trail. Preview them at www.salisburyma.gov/trails, then "news and events."

MRFRS seeks partners for new SpayMass van

The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society is seeking locations and animal welfare organizations to partner with their new SpayMass van. Beginning in October, the van will travel to locations, such as local humane societies, schools, town/city halls and other central locations and provide high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter services to cats and kittens. Low-cost vaccines, microchips other veterinary services will also be provided. Interested parties can e-mail spaymass@mrfrs.org or call 888-495-SPAY (7729). The van operates five days per week, and travels to locations as far south and west as Lowell and as far north as Southern New Hampshire. The cost will be $75 per cat for spay/neuter, microchips and vaccines.

Boat Massachusetts Course

The Boat Massachusetts program will offer courses on equipment and operating guidelines needed for safe boating. Classes will take place May 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, and 27, 28 if necessary, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Graduates in the 12 to 15-year-old age group will be issued a Safety Certificate allowing them to operate a motorboat without parent supervision. Graduates in the ages 16 and 17 will be issued a Safety Certificate allowing them to operate a personal watercraft. The course will take place for five to six classes each lasting two hours. Herb Seminar May 18

On Sunday, May 18 at 1 p.m., the Salisbury Historical Society will feature a seminar on herbs, their history, farming and usage, at the Parsonage Museum, 16 Elm St. The guest speaker will be Rita Wollmering of Salisbury's Herb Farmacy. Historical Society Open House June 22

On Sunday, June 22, at 1 p.m., the Salisbury Historical Society will hold an open house at its Parsonage Museum at 16 Elm St. Residents and others can visit the new museum to see the latest additions. Volunteers have worked hard over the winter to furnish and appoint the museum with Salisbury memorabilia from centuries past.
