Newbury has only contested Triton race

NEWBURY — Voters will go to the polls Tuesday for the annual town election.

While there are 13 municipal offices on the ballot, only two are being contested: a seat on the Board of Selectmen and one on the Triton Regional School Committee.

In the race for a Newbury seat on the School Committee, incumbent Diana "Dina" Sullivan of Byfield is seeking a second three-year term on the nine-member panel. She is being challenged by fellow Byfield resident William Levasseur, a first-time candidate.

There are three representatives from each of the Triton towns — Newbury, Rowley and Salisbury. In an unusual election procedure, voters in all three towns can cast ballots for candidates from their own community and from the other two.

This year, Newbury is the only Triton community with a contested seat. In Rowley, former Selectman Lane Bourne is running unopposed. Holly Beth Janvrin has no opponent for the Salisbury seat.
