May 12, 2008 05:55 am Holly Beth Janvrin Address: 47 Pike St. Salisbury Age: 44 Children: Three children. Oldest is Stephanie, graduated from Triton in 2005. Twins Joseph and Emily are in third grade at Salisbury Elementary School. Educational: Amesbury High School 1982 Occupation: My husband and I own and operate Simmie's Garage in Salisbury. Years in Salisbury: 15 years Community involvement: Currently PTA, President of Salisbury Elementary School, Brownie leader of Salisbury Troop 868, softball coach for SYSBL team Riptides, assistant coach for SYSBL team Look outs, Governors Board for Salisbury's community access channel. Reasons for running for Triton School Committee member: The desire to see that change continues to happen in the best interest of our children. Challenges facing Triton School District: Many things are important right now at Triton High School and middle and elementary schools. The hiring of coaches for high school sports teams truly has many in an uproar, and I truly feel this a very negative impact on our school. Good and well working technology is also needed, and officials are trying very diligently on this. One that is personal to me — and unfortunately still goes on — is the stereotyping of Salisbury students. Every child should be proud of where he or she comes from, and I feel this should continue when the student gets to middle and high schools. Solutions to meet challenges: The way to solve some problems is being involved. Trying to understand the system better, be a voice for all who are involved. Build unity as a strong school committee, work as a team, ask questions. Hold school administrators responsible for the actions made. How to reach out to the Salisbury community: Keep improving communications; attend local PTA meetings; ensure all are on the same page; say "we are one," then incorporate it.
