Two more races decided

NEWBURY — While the races for Board of Selectmen drew most of the attention in Tuesday's annual town election, there were two other contests on the ballot.

Paul Thistlewood of 26 Central St. won a three-year term as fish commissioner, defeating Robert Fournier of 15 Springhill Road, 694-421.

Thistlewood is the fourth generation of his family to serve on the town's Fish Commission. The seat he won on Tuesday had been held by his late father, John, who died in January.

Longtime Tree Warden Peter Hollis of 45 Cottage Road turned back a challenge from Sean Pearson of 10 Fruit St. to win a new one-year term.

Hollis polled 876 votes to 390 for Pearson.

The two separate selectmen's races — for two three-year terms and one two-year seat — fish commissioner and tree warden were the only contests on the ballot.

Other candidates were unopposed. They were:

Planning Board, five-year term: Linda McCamic, 2 Longview Lane, 861 votes.

Planning Board, three-year, unexpired term: Kathleen Pearson, 21 Seaview Lane, 922 votes.
