Port man charged after car crash

By Dan Atkinson
Staff Writer

WEST NEWBURY — A Newburyport man is facing charges after police said he crashed his car into a River Road telephone pole over the weekend and fled the scene, later reporting the car stolen.

Police responded to the area of 183 River Road to find a car crashed into a telephone pole and "wires all over the road," Chief Lisa Holmes said. Jason Keohane, 27, of 17 Ferrell Ave., later reported the car stolen to Haverhill police. When he came to West Newbury to retrieve the car, he admitted that he lied about it being stolen, Holmes said.

Keohane will be charged with leaving the scene of an accident, negligent driving and speeding.
