SALISBURY — An 8-year-old girl injured in a car accident Friday is out of the hospital, Salisbury police said earlier this week.

The girl was taken by MedFlight to Mass General Hospital after a Boys and Girls Club van collided head-on with an SUV at the intersection of Route 286 and Route 1. The girl, who was in the van, suffered from internal injuries. Five other children in the van were taken to Anna Jaques Hospital with minor injuries or for evaluation, according to police. The girl was held for observation at Mass General, according to Sgt. Eugene Scione, and released Saturday in good condition.

The van's driver, Michael Dion, 20, 23 High Road, Epping, N.H., was charged with failing to yield at the intersection, Scione said. Dion turned left into the intersection and collided with a Woburn woman's SUV heading eastbound, according to police reports.

Scione said Dion had a clean driving record and the accident was likely just driver error.

"There was poor weather. It was rainy, and he had a van full of kids," Scione said. "He could've been distracted."
