The wail of fire sirens at the Sweetsir School on Monday, May 19 won't be because of a fire call, but for a scheduled visit for preschoolers.

Merrimac Fire Department members will be on hand at the school to talk to the preschoolers about fire safety and prevention, show them all the gear it takes to fight a fire, and let them hop aboard the fire truck and look around. The firefighters will return to the school on Tuesday, May 27 so that all preschool classes will have a chance to learn more about the fire department.

The schools will commemorate Memorial Day with special all-school assembly programs on Friday, May 23. Local veterans have been invited to attend and the students will perform patriotic songs and poems during the program, which is open to family members of students. Donaghue School will have its assembly at 9 a.m., while Sweetsir School will celebrate and remember during a 1:30 p.m. program.

MCAS testing continues for Donaghue students through the week of May 19.

There will be a School Committee meeting on Tuesday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sweetsir School in Merrimac. In an effort to make these meetings more convenient for those in the Pentucket Regional School district, this year the meetings have been held at various schools, rather than always at the high school.

The school store will be open for students at the Donaghue and Sweetsir Schools on Wednesday, May 21. Students may check out items for sale during lunch periods.
