SEABROOK — Seabrook police responded to the second motorcycle accident on Route 1 in six days, when a Chevy Escalade hit a bike in front of Touchless Care Wash yesterday.
According to Seabrook police Officer John Mounsey, no serious injuries resulted, but the driver of the Escalade was cited for a traffic violation.
Mounsey said the motorcycle, ridden by a 16-year-old Plaistow boy, was heading south on Route 1. As he moved into the left turning lane to make the turn into Railroad Avenue, he was struck by the Black Escalade, driven by 69-year-old Cynthia Vaux, of Drinkwater Road, Hampton Falls.
Mounsey said Vaux was driving east — the wrong way — on Pine Street, attempting to exit the road at its intersection with Route 1 to head north. Pine Street is a one-way street so Vaux was issued a summons for going the wrong way on a one-way road.
Mounsey said the youth was able to walk after the accident and was checked out by Seabrook's emergency personnel at the scene. He refused to go to the hospital, Mounsey said, and was picked up at the Seabrook police station by his mother. Mounsey said the youth had the proper driving permits.
Vaux was not injured, he said.
On Thursday, another motorcycle rider collided with a car on Route 1 near the 99 Restaurant. The Seabrook ambulance transported the motorcycle driver to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
There were no traffic citations issued as a result of that accident, he said.
Mounsey said accidents are not abnormal for the busy seacoast highway. Route 1 sees a lot of accidents every year, whether due to increasing traffic loads or drivers who are in a hurry or perhaps distracted.
