West Newbury: Recycling fundraiser nets $1,555

WEST NEWBURY — The Page School Green Team teamed up with Visiting Geeks, a Merrimac-based on-site computer repair company, to coordinate an electronics recycling fundraiser at the school one Saturday earlier this month.

After just four hours of recycling, the Green Team received a check from Visiting Geeks for $1,555.

The Green Team kids also held a baked goods and T-shirt sale fundraiser at the same time.

"The community support was amazing," said Sharron Senter, Visiting Geeks chief recycling coordinator. "We had well over 100 cars stop by to support the Green Team."

Forty percent of the electronics disposal cost collected and 100 percent of profits from T-shirt and bake sales will go toward PTO-sponsored programs at the Page School. The Green Team, implemented last year, recycles all paper, plastics, glass, aluminum and tin throughout the school.

"These kids are completely dedicated and take great pride in doing their part in protecting the environment," said parent organizer Alison Jones.

Visiting Geeks coordinates electronics recycling fundraisers with North Shore schools as part of its community outreach program. Schools receive 40 percent of the recycling money collected. Schools provide the volunteers and get the word out to parents and community members, while Visiting Geeks provides the trucks and manages the safe disposal of the electronics.
