The fourth-graders will be gazing up at the night sky during the day today courtesy of a visit of the Portable Planetarium Starlab brought to the school by the Museum of Science of Boston. Each class will have their turn visiting the huge 25-by-25-by-12-foot Starlab, which imitates a dark, cloudless night sky. Instructors from the museum will show students how to recognize patterns in the night sky and discuss how different cultures around the world create different constellations based on those patterns.
In addition, the use of video images and simulations will allow students an up-close look at some of the most distant objects that can be seen from Earth.
