Concert Band opens West Newbury's free summer music series

WEST NEWBURY — The 2009 West Newbury Summer Community Bandstand Series kicks off this week with a performance by the 35-member Merrimack Valley Concert Band. The first of 11 free concerts, Thursday's performance features Broadway tunes, patriotic music, marches, dance music and more. Come to listen, sing along, or even get up and dance.

The summertime concerts start at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday through the end of August. Bring a chair or blanket, friends, family and bug spray to the gazebo located behind the 1910 Town Office Building, 381 Main St. Food and beverages are available. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the nearby Annex.

July 2: Jesse Dee, 7 Notes Records Recording Act; singer/songwriter

July 9: Thomas Machine Works Band, six-piece rock/country

July 16: Bill Staines, folk singer/songwriter

July 23: Bill Morrissey, singer/songwriter

July 30: Nick Goumas Quartet, jazz

Aug. 6: Guitar X3 featuring Mark Marquis, acoustic guitar trio

Aug. 13: Don White, singer/songwriter

Aug. 20: Angela West and Showdown, country

Aug. 27: Merrimack Valley Concert Band, American variety
