June 26, 2009 03:57 am WEST NEWBURY — A Haverhill man is dead and a woman is in serious condition after a motorcycle accident in West Newbury last evening. Shortly before 6 p.m., West Newbury police received a call alerting them to a serious crash involving a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a Toyota Rav4 sports utility vehicle in the area of 169 Bachelor St. "It was car vs. motorcycle," West Newbury police Chief Lisa Holmes said. "The male on the motorcycle was deceased at the scene when we arrived." The woman victim was originally thought to have been from the vehicle, but upon further investigation last night, police believe the woman was a passenger on the back of the motorcycle. "The female passenger we believe was on the motorcycle," Holmes said, noting police were working last night to find out her identity. The female was flown by helicopter to a Boston area hospital with serious injuries. "She had no identification on her person or on the bike. She is in serious condition." Holmes said the identity and age of the victims would be held until this morning pending notification of the next of kin, although Haverhill police last night identified the deceased man as being from that city. Holmes said she would also release information on the driver of the vehicle this morning. Last night the Amesbury Regional Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the crash, trying to piece together what factors were involved. "Hopefully they will be able to tell us what happened," Holmes said. As of last night, no charges had been filed. The accident remains under investigation by officer Royster Johnson and Sgt. Dan Cena.
