Heard around town: Biking for a cause at Fenway Park

Any trip to Fenway Park is special, but for Amesbury's Denise DeSimone, next Saturday's game will definitely be one to remember.

DeSimone, 52, will be among 40 cancer survivors who will be recognized by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, July 12, in honor of the Pan-Mass Challenge. The group will ride their bikes around the warning track in a pre-game ceremony during which the PMC logo will be unveiled on the Green Monster.

DeSimone also participated in the Pan-Mass Challenge last year. She was selected to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Fenway Park last July.

The Pan-Mass Challenge is Aug. 2 and 3. Cyclists travel up to 190 miles across Massachusetts to raise money for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.
