AMESBURY — Police are searching for a suspect who held up the Dunkin' Donuts on Route 110 at gunpoint late Sunday night, one of at least seven armed robberies that have taken place in Amesbury and Haverhill in the last two weeks.

The two departments are working together to find the man, said Haverhill Detective Daniel McDonald.

Amesbury police Lt. Gary Ingham said the suspect is in his early to mid-20s. He said the man entered the Dunkin' Donuts, approached the counter, and whispered to a worker, "Give me all the money," while showing a black handgun.

The man walked out of the store with an undetermined amount of money, Ingham said.

Two clerks gave a description of a white male, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 150 pounds, wearing a black and white hoodie, sunglasses and baggy blue jeans. He was alone. Detective David Pare said the clerks could not tell if the man left the area on foot or by car, or which way he went.

"They're pretty shaken up still," Pare said.

Haverhill has also seen five robberies committed by a person with similar features in recent days, Pare said.

Haverhill's McDonald said the capture of the suspect is the Haverhill department's top priority and that police are asking public's help in finding him. He said that since June 28, the suspect has been targeting convenience stores, including a Cumberland Farms at Westgate Plaza in Haverhill next to Interstate 495.

"This is a high-priority item for us," McDonald said. "We expect he'll strike again," .

Police have reviewed security tapes from some of the businesses that were robbed and have a photograph they believe to be the suspect they are looking for.

Police said an award will be offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Pare at the Amesbury Police Department at 978-388-1217.
